Dreaming of Kyoto — Rêvant de Kyoto
In Kyoto dreaming of Kyoto
CYB — June 2013
In Kyoto dreaming of Kyoto. The words are from Bashô. This power of evocation of reality, this strength of dream in each perception, this untimely irruption of layers of times, that is my experience of Venice. That is how, starting from a purely abstract process, I had to listen to the voice of rediscovered reality.
For Kyoto, my experience is different. It is a dream, the power of words, those of Kawabata, Tanizaki, mixed depths of Haruki Murakami, which become a pictural reality. The presence of dry gardens, of their furrows, give rise to meditation. Each detail of the furrows in a Zen garden, and each element of any Japanese garden, open a pictural meditation.
I am the furrow which turns into water, I am the rock which turns into fish. I am the carp, the dragon, the tiger.
Whilst moving and painting, I am the rock, the samuraï, the great kimono of brocaded silk, in the garden, the ever-rediscovered paradise.
In the chaos of steps and stone slabs, a way arises, improbable and certain. The springing up herbs, the hauling up moss provide the eyes with a delightful journey.
The abstract painter feels at home, in this metamorphosis of shapes and materials. Dreaming of Kyoto, painting the colors’ feast, with their melody I’m calling for the reality of spaces the heart cherishes.
